Loader lift capacity only becomes useful when you know how it was measured. Before buying, describe the load you need to handle and ask for performance information for the exact tractor, loader and attachment combination.
Read the measurement conditions
Manufacturers may quote capacity at the pivot pin or at a point ahead of it, and at different heights. Deere’s 120R specification distinguishes these conditions. Compare like with like. A headline figure without its measurement point and height cannot establish whether the loader will handle your planned task.
Separate breakout from lifting
Breakout force describes a different performance measure from the load that can be raised to full height. Do not treat it as payload capacity. Ask which specification is relevant to picking up your material, travelling and placing it at the destination. Keep the manufacturer’s definitions with your comparison sheet.
Include the attachment and load position
Identify the actual bucket or forks, their mass and the position of the load. Pallet dimensions and the centre of gravity can change the demands on a loader. Have the supplier confirm how attachment mass is accounted for in the published figures. Do not subtract or reinterpret values without understanding the rating method.
Check ballast and stability
Ask for the required ballast, tyres and setup in the applicable manuals. Adequate hydraulic force does not by itself establish stable operation. Terrain, travel position and operating technique also matter. Arrange instruction for the complete setup and do not increase relief pressure to chase a higher lift figure.
Apply the figures to a real example
If you need to handle a pallet, supply its total weight, dimensions and placement height. A pallet that can be lifted slightly from the ground may not be suitable for full-height placement. Ask for a documented assessment of the complete movement, including a safe travel route and unloading area.
Request evidence before ordering
Obtain the loader model, attachment model, rating sheet and manual. Confirm any ballast or hydraulic options included in the quote. If the supplier cannot link a capacity claim to the offered configuration, resolve that uncertainty before purchase. Avoid demonstrations that exceed the equipment’s limits.
